The original organ of St Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh, was built by William Telford in 1874-75; it was a three-manual instrument with 33 stops and Barker lever action. In 1904 Telford & Telford rebuilt the organ with pneumatic action, higher wind pressure and considerable revoicing. The organ was once more rebuilt between 1987 and 1989, this time by the Irish Organ Company of Antrim. A fourth manual was added, and the tonal design of the instrument was extensively altered.

As it now stands, the organ has four manuals, each of 61 notes, and a pedal board of 32 notes. The wind pressure is 95mm throughout, and there are 58 stops. The tremulants are adjustable at the console. The console is detached, and has curved terraced stop jambs. The entire instrument is located in the west gallery.
