The city of Armagh is the religious capital of Ireland. As such, there are two magnificent cathedrals named in honour of St Patrick, who lived there for a time.
The 1840 Walker organ in the Anglican cathedral has been rebuilt countless times (mostly by said firm, but also by Meates Bros, Evans & Barr and Wells-Kennedy), however, it still maintains most of its essential "English cathedral" character.
The organ is situated in a chamber on the north side of the quire. Although there are twin facades, on either side of the quire facing each other, the south case contains only the "Tuba". The console is situated in a pit at the far end of the north choir aisle. The action is electric.
The most recent rebuild by Wells-Kennedy saw an increase of the specification, with much upperwork being added (in some places at the expense of 8' foundations).
Though much of the Pedal is extended from itself, the only case of manual extension is that of the Trumpet and Clarion on the Choir, which are also available on the Pedal.
